Course Objectives a) iPads in maths teaching at high school A basic overview on what you can do and what you cannot do with iPads Technical requirements when using iPads in the classroom Working with maths apps, using a platform to communicate and share material Presenting students‘ results Pedagogical approach: working in pairs or alone, blended learning, flipped classroom b) Introduction to Mathematica 10 on the free Wolfram Cloud Working with notebooks on Functions, Differentiation, Integration, Linear Algebra, Statistics Creating and distributing documents and exercise sheets Using Wolfram Cloud for maths projects in the classroom Discussing collaborations Thinking of a possible Erasmus+ project between schools. If possible, please, plan your flights so that you can make it to the welcome dinner. If you arrive in Vienna: the train journey to Graz takes about 2.5 hours. Course Preparation All participants are expected to bring their own laptop (Windows 7 or higher) and an iPad (version 3.0 upwards). The trainer is Reinhard Simonovits, PhD in Theoretical Physics, Mathematics teacher at Handelsakademie Grazbachgasse, lecturer at Karl-Franzens University, Desktop developer, instructor for iPads in maths classes. The course is given by Deltasoft, a commercial offspring of the Comenius 2.1 project 22639-1-AT-COMENIUS-C21 where parts of the e-learning units of Desktop were developed. Bernd Thaller is head of the center of education. Institution Organizing the Course The course will be held at the University of Graz, Institute for Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Center of Education, HeinrichstraGraz. Target Audience This is a great opportunity for teachers in mathematics, science, and for teacher trainers in secondary education (general secondary, vocational/technical secondary) to gain international practice with Karl-Franzens University in Graz, Austria.
